Covid-19 prevention measures

Duration

May 2020 – July 2020

Location

Kabulwebulwe Chiefdom

Status

84 villages - completed

At the start of the pandemic, there was a necessity to spread information about the Covid-19 virus among the communities. We have done this in the form of a sensitization program that was fully sponsored by the Green Safaris Conservation Foundation.

We started with a meeting with all 87 headmen outside the Chieftainess palace. Over 2,500 soap bars were distributed through these headmen to each village family.

We also provided the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW) officers at Nalusanga gate a temperature gun to measure all the incoming bus passengers for increased temperatures.

Flyers and posters were designed and written in Tonga, Nyanja and English and distributed in public areas like churches, schools and markets.

A Covid-19 sensitisation radio programme, recorded by Game Rangers International, was delivered to both Kaoma and Mumbwa radio stations in local languages. Since then, this radio program has aired more than once a day in both areas.

Finally, we have provided three health clinics and five primary schools with face masks, so they can safely interact with patients and within the classrooms.
